The Most Entertaining Dragon Books For Kids

By Enid Hinton

Mythical creatures with spikes, claws and wings that breathe fire have been the subject of much speculation through the ages. They appear in tales told by many different cultures all over the world. These creatures hold a fascination that makes them popular with people of all ages. Dragon books for kids are written in such a way as to be entertaining and humorous rather than frightening but they still have a magical quality about them.

Authors have given free reign to their imaginations in creating the characters of these dragons and in describing their appearance. They are small, large, cute, cuddly, spiky, beautiful and ugly. They come in all sorts of hues and shapes. Most of them have wings and breathe fire. However, their fire breathing qualities are often used in ways that are funny or brave rather than destructive such as when they set fire to their own wings or use it to put fear into the hearts of some bullies.

There are those that are lonely and looking for affection, clumsy ones, naughty ones and above all, creatures that children can relate to in some way or other, whether it is the cowardly creature who has to face up to his fears of mice or the one who feels all alone and just wants someone to be his friend. One may be adopted as a pet by a child who goes through all kinds of adventures as a result, surviving many challenges and coming through them victoriously.

Children respond to their strangeness and their imaginations are stretched by the situations they encounter and how they handle them. Their every day life is enriched as a result. They can laugh at them and be happy with them when they overcome their challenges.

These dragons do not often live in caves in remote areas. They roam around in the streets and find their way into homes and schools. They may have a taste for foods like ice cream or tacos and some are even vegetarians. They may even enjoy using their fire breathing abilities to make toast rather than cause destruction.

Reading about dragons is fun for children and encourages a love of reading. They may love these stories so much that they remember them well into adulthood. When a parent reads stories like this to a small child, the child often wants to read these stories on their own once they are old enough. Today there are many novels of this nature more suited to young adults that they can move onto when they are older.

Many people today choose to buy books online as this offers the option of easily comparing prices and reading reviews to find the most suitable options. Lists of best sellers are also available and there are many forums where parents make suggestions about stories their children have enjoyed. The ones that often have the most appeal for children are those that make them laugh.

Authors love dragons with their scales, claws, wings, spikes and fire breathing capabilities. Their appearance and qualities provide great opportunities for comedy, adventure and magic. Children remain fascinated and thoroughly entertained when these creatures become involved in situations they can relate to and find amusing and yet are magical and strange at the same time.
