How To Find A Professional Writer For Hire

By Roger Young

Hiring a writer is a big decision since the person will serve as a persona reflection of your brand. If they do a good job, this will reflect well on your or your company but if they do a bad job, you will be the one to be embarrassed. That is why you should find the best author possible. Here are some of the things you should know when you are looking for a professional writer for hire.

Find out how much experience the person has. Preferably, go for someone who has experience in writing the topics that you are interested in. A specialized person will do a much better job than someone who writes anything and everything. You also need to know how long they have been writing. This depends on how hard the topic is. Newbie's can tackle easy topics, while more advanced topics require more experienced authors.

Try out the services of the person before you get them to complete more serious tasks. You can try them out by allocating small tasks at first and then gradually increasing their workload. This will prevent you from getting disappointed after allocating lots of work to someone, only to realize that they cannot handle it. Also, remember to do an interview first and talk to the person. This can be face to face or online.

Ask them how much they charge for their services. This will depend on your budget and how much you can afford to pay. Just remember that you will get what you pay for. If you do not pay good rates, it will be hard to find a quality person, who will stick with you for a long time.

You have to find someone who has the time to work on your projects. Some people do many jobs, so they only work on a part time basis as authors. Other people work as authors full time. If you have regular urgent projects or huge workloads, you need someone who can handle the tasks in time. If your deadlines are more flexible, a part time worker will do.

Decide whether you want to get someone long term or short term. If you are planning to give them long term work, you can choose to pay them on a monthly basis. If you want someone short term, pay them whenever they complete a project. You might even choose to employ an author on a full term basis, if you have lots of work.

Explain to the person what you expect from them. Do you expect them to just write or perform other functions as well? This might include designing power point presentations and looking for images that go with your articles. Define the scope of the project. However, it might be unfair for you to expect an author to posses other skills, such as graphic designing or web designing. Get other people to do these tasks for you.

Post great job descriptions when you are posting job ads looking for an author. A well written description increases your chances of finding the right person for the job. This is because it will attract the right people and weed out the ones who don't meet your requirements.
