For many people, the idea of writing a resume is an intimidating one. You may not know what to include, what to keep out, or even where to start writing. In order to not only rank on search engines but market yourself to potential employers, the following do's and don'ts should be considered.

DO consider which keywords will be most valuable. Anyone that has ever written a digital resume will tell you that some keywords matter more than others. The best ones, as you might have imagined, reflect your skills and the industry you're part of. You'll also want to focus on keywords that employers are likely to Google. Keywords matter, but it's important to focus on the best ones.

DON'T overlook the importance of a headline. Every resume should come with a headline, which must be developed with the utmost care. Let's say that, for the sake of argument, that you're located in Florida. You should be able to add the name in question, not to mention the abbreviated form of "FL." By including different variations, you'll be able to benefit from SEO further. Needless to say, such a simple tip can go a long way.

DON'T let your resume go without updates. If you're truly looking to get the most out of your resume, from a digital standpoint, it would be unwise to leave it by the wayside. As a matter of fact, it's recommended that you continue to update it. This is especially true as progress is made in the workplace. Much like a website, when a resume is updated, its chances of ranking will only increase.
