The Procedure For Lawn Spraying And Fertilization

By Richard Burns

Most homeowners find lawn care to be a problematic issue. It takes great attention and consistency to maintain lawns in a good condition. Diseases need to be kept away while applying water and fertilizer in a timely manner. Knowing when to apply water and fertilizer is very crucial and may make the most important part of the job. Additionally, lawn spraying and fertilization needs one to use specific appliances and tools for it to be done correctly.

The process of spraying water and fertilizer requires a certain level of expertise and the skills can be mastered quite easily with little practice and research. However, some people lack the time for such activities because of their busy work schedules. If such is the case, one should hire a professional to do the job for them. Doing the job wrong can be messy and wasteful, and may only achieve limited results.

The best approach to this job is coming up with a strategic plan. The plan should depend on the kind of issue that is being targeted. For instance, spraying for weeds cannot be similar to when the process is done to eliminate bugs. One should identify the reason for applying the sprays and conduct research on the best way to do it.

The sprayer type is another very important consideration. Sprayers vary in various factors including size, shape, style, and design. One can choose from the wide variety. Sprayers are suitable for different applications and that must be kept in mind when choosing. Advice can be gotten from the store keeper. Manufacturer manuals are also important courses of information on sprayers.

When one targets to remove weeds from the grass, spring and autumn are the best seasons to do that. The months of summer are not the best for killing weeds in lawns. Similarly, one should avoid applying sprays on new lawns. New lawns must be given time to develop deep root systems to withstand sprays. It is recommended that new lawns should be mowed at least three or four times before they can be sprayed.

Fertilization is another tricky process that needs to be timed well. It is best to fertilize when it is not raining too much, but it should not be too dry either. Fertilizing should be done with water soluble fertilizers. A local expert in lawns can give advice on the right fertilizer to apply. Grass in different stages of growth need different kinds of fertilizer and being able to tell the difference is important.

Immediately lawns have been mowed, they should not be sprayed with chemicals that are meant to kill weeds. Fresh wounds are introduced in leaves after mowing and the chemicals are absorbed through them into the plant. Those chemicals can kill the grass or result in other adverse effects such as retardation in growth.

Watering is another important component of lawn care. Grass needs water in order to thrive. As such, water should be provided in sufficient quantity. Too much water can kill roots while insufficient water can cause poor growth and other adverse effects. Watering is best when done in cool weather, preferably in the evenings or mornings.
