Guidelines On Furniture Refinishing Massachusetts

By Sandra Stewart

Saving is one of the important aspects that one should take into consideration if he or she expects a better life in future. Although people tend to save mostly from putting a side part of their income, saving can also be done through using other methods such as acquiring second hand things or refinishing furniture. In the city, Hudson, MA, furniture refinishing Massachusetts can be done using the following steps.

The process involves the old finish being removed first. In this step one has to get his or her hands dirty. Having this in mind, it at times is tiresome since it involves two techniques. The first technique requires a sand paper to be used to remove any finish that has stayed on the wood. In cases of stains, one will find a sand paper of higher grit in order to get rid of it. One can also use chemical stripper as the second technique.

The second process is by preparing the wood. One will have to use a sand paper on the wood in order to make smooth the rough places and get rid of any old finish that was left. This is despite having used the chemical stripper technique in the beginning. Afterwards, one will still use sand with grain in order to make the complete furniture smooth.

Depending on the grain that the furniture has, this next step is optional. Furniture with open grains will require application of grain fillers while those with tight grains will not. Application of filler will need a paint brush or piece of rag. In case of excess filler, one will use a scraper of plastic material to remove it. After the filler has dried, the piece of wood will be lightly sanded with the grain.

Use of sanding sealer will be the last step involved in staining of furniture. By use of a sand sealer, the whole complete wood will be stained uniformly. Afterwards, a dense coat will be applied all over the wood and in case of excess coating, a piece of cloth will be used to remove it.

It is however important to know that in the staining process one can use different range of products. Before choosing a product it is necessary for one to follow instructions provided by the manufacturer on each product. Some of the products that one can choose from include water based or oil based and the gel stain.

At the finish level, one will have to put into consideration the kind of finish to be used. One will have to know what he or she will be looking for, the durability of the finish, the level of skill that he or she possess and how the things acquired are supposed to be used. By choosing the right products for the work, the outcome will be great.

It is therefore important to note that the following steps above act as guidelines for refinishing. The output of the particular wood will depend mostly on the commodities used in the whole process and how one is keen on following rules. Through this process, one is able to avoid buying of brand new furniture often.
