The Spiritual Meaning Of Trees

The tree has become synonymous with life, energy, wisdom, and sustenance that is an important part of spiritual belief systems and practices. The spiritual meaning of trees has been recognized as dating back thousands of years and is included in a large number of myths and stories that provide a sense of support and meaning. There are many different trees and each of these can play a significant role in the development of a firm foundation.

There are a large number of symbols that can be associated with the creation of trees and development of all types of plant growth from beauty and strength to protection and eternal life. Such extensive forms of vegetation have been recognized as including vast root systems and magnificent branch development that grows skywards. All of the vegetation recognized as producing fruits, it is recognized as being a bearer of life.

One of the most well known of vegetation includes the Tree of Life that is referenced in the Bible and many other cultures. Its meaning can be attributed to ancient beliefs and is most often concerned with energy and deep rooted systems that allow for the building of a firm foundation and continuous growth. Understanding such symbolism requires a closer look at the different cultural belief systems.

It is the Mayans who emphasized the magical properties of the mystical mountain, Tamoanchan. It is in this culture that the belief includes the connection of the tree to the three places including the underworld, heavens, and the earth. There is reference to the Mayan Tree of Life that includes an extensive root system and links the different spheres.

The Egyptian Tree is considered the creation where the couple responsible for creation sprang forth. This is the symbol from which all creation is believed to have emerged and is believed to be responsible for life and death. There are a number of ancient paintings depicting the tremendous tree and the early couple that can be viewed in its entirety.

The practice of Kabbalah has been considered a complex approach to existence as it focuses on the concept of plant life and root systems. It is believed that this intricate growth pattern is the the key whereby the creation flows from the Divine to the earth and then back up towards the Divine. The different columns that are part of this design include the female aspect of creation, pillar of mercy, and the pillar of equilibrium.

It is in the Garden of Eden that the Tree of Life is largely recognized in biblical tales where it is guarded by a snake. It was in this garden that the river split into the different directions and has been described as representative of the heavens, life, and serves as a symbol of true union. It is further believed that the tree indicates the connection between the Divine and the human heart.

There is a great deal of emphasis placed on the various cultures and religions. A number of complex processes are noted in these systems; however, regardless of the belief, the trees are considered part of a union or a connection between earth and the Divine. It has been regarded a suitable option for mythical tales and the creation of meaning that focuses on spiritual balance.
